Kratom (botanical name; Mitragyna Speciosa Korthals) is a leaf harvested from a medium sized leafy tree that grows natively in Southeast Asia.

The tree is known for its medical purpose for centuries and is a relative of the Rubiaceae Family (Coffee, Quinine etc). Kratom powders and leaves are also used for the psychoactive effects. It contains at least 25 known alkaloids; including. Mitragynine, mitraphylline, 7-hydroxymitragynine. Kratom also contains alkaloids which are thought to play a beneficial role on the immune system and lower blood pressure, as well as epicatechin, the powerful antioxidant, which can also be found in dark chocolate and green tea. Other active substances and alkaloids in kratom include raubasine (best known from Rauwolfia serpentina) and some yohimbe like alkaloids such as corynantheidine.
